Communications & Marketing Intern

TYPE: Internship (10-12 hours/week)

DURATION: May 15, 2017 thru August 18, 2017

RATE: Unpaid

LOCATION: 410 SW. A St. (Downtown Bentonville)

SUMMARY: BikeNWA seeks a passionate, self-starting individual interested in gaining real-world marketing & communications experience related to bike advocacy in a nonprofit environment.


  • High school diploma (preference given to applicants currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program in marketing, communications, transportation, urban planning, sustainability, or a related field)
  • Must be able to:
    • effectively communicate with others orally and in writing
    • ideate and develop marketing-related projects or initiatives
    • meet required deadlines while working on a variety of projects
    • draft professional reports and business correspondence, prepare and present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the public
    • compile and analyze data from a variety of sources
    • work independently and as part of a team
    • give and receive constructive criticism
    • safely operate a bicycle under a variety of environmental conditions and operational situations


  • Develop city-wide bicycle education and encouragement programs to inform motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians of the energy savings, monetary savings, health benefits, and best practices associated with bicycling for transportation
  • Assist the Director of Communications with public relations, outreach, social media, merchandising, design, and other aspects of marketing related to current and future BikeNWA initiatives and projects

  • Curate weekly digest of news, upcoming events, and potential social media posts

  • Assist with launch of the Bike Alliance of Northwest Arkansas

  • Assist with development and launch of DRAFT networking/happy hour events

  • Assist with white paper research (topics to include bike advocacy basics, infrastructure, cycling culture, etc.)

  • Assist with updating,, and

  • Assist with planning and execution of Natural State Criterium Series
