Travel with Care NWA Hosts First Annual Winter Warm-Up Fundraiser
Regional Transportation Safety Awareness Initiative to Raise Money in Honor of Fallen Friend
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS February 8, 2017—Travel with Care NWA will host its first annual Winter Warm-Up fundraiser in honor of Jen Bikel, a local runner who was killed by a motorist approximately one year ago. The event will take place this Saturday, February 11th, from 6-9PM at the Sauder Showroom (1109 SW A St.) in Bentonville. Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and include dinner (provided by Baller Foodtruck), drinks, and a silent auction featuring active lifestyle items donated by local bike and running shops. Proceeds will fund Travel with Care NWA’s work to make Northwest Arkansas a safer, happier, healthier place.
On the morning of February 3rd, 2016, Jen Bikel—self-professed TV addict, Yankees fan, avid reader, and newbie runner—was jogging in Rogers on a roadside portion of the Razorback Greenway when a motorist pulling out of a parking lot struck and killed her. She was 40 years old.
In the wake of Jen’s tragic death, the cycling and running communities joined together to launch Travel with Care NWA, a nonprofit initiative under the auspices of BikeNWA dedicated to promoting safety awareness for drivers, cyclists, runners, and pedestrians.
